SUPERVALU Employees Credit Union was granted their certificate of organization on May 13, 1939. The original certificate of organization was granted under the name of Winston & Newell Employees Credit Union.

On April 12, 1954 the members of Winston & Newell Employees Credit Union of Hopkins, MN voted to amend Section 1 of the certificate of organization to read as follows:

"Section 1. The name of this credit union shall be Super Valu Employees Credit Union and the location and place of business shall be Hopkins, MN."

On December 1, 2002, a special meeting of the membership was held to vote on a name change to the credit union from SUPERVALU Employees Credit Union to PEOPLES Community Credit Union.

The charter is also open to anyone who lives, works, worships, volunteers, or attends school in Hopkins, St. Louis Park and Minnetonka.
